Important changes coming to family court in Toronto

08.07.2024

Family lawyers and self-represented litigants in Toronto’s Ontario Court of Justice will soon need to ensure they begin their applications in the right court.

Starting September 1, 2024, all new family cases in Toronto OCJ shall be started at either 47 Sheppard Ave or 311 Jarvis St, depending on the electoral district of the Applicant or in which the children reside.

The website of the Ontario Court of Justice has a handy locator feature; parties or counsel can enter the postal code to find out where they should start their case.

This change should in time lead to a more even distribution of cases between the two Toronto courts.
